In 1703, after the birth of their first child, she was received into the Russian Orthodox Church and rechristened Catherine. She married Peter in 1712, and in 1724 he had her crowned tsarina and joint ruler. When Peter died in 1725 without naming a successor, she served two years as empress of Russia until her death. He wears Emperor Purple ties so that everyone can see he is an Emperor - he is just borrowing from the Roman Emperors - he is, after all, a historian (Dr. Brown PhD Edinburgh)and would know about these things
The whole Labour front bench turn out in purple these days - looks as if they're trying to distance themselves from Old Labour and the horny-handed sons of toil. It was probably Mandy's idea.
So any ideas for what will replace the Red Flag at the next conference?
