It would seem that people are expecting a steep rise in either fuel duty or VAT - queues at the local garage, and 'empty' signs attached to most of the pumps.

And there is no increase.

Sadly, the VAT increase will mean an increase in petrol prices....from next January. However there is an increase in fuel duty due in October...one of Labour's legacies.
Yep, everything'll go up in January, but at least the increased personal tax allowance will help a bit.
Wonder if he'll do anything to defer or even cancel that increase in fuel duty? Hope so.
